How can I activate my roaming service?

For Post-paid before traveling, call the Vodacom Customer Line, 84111 (free call), to request roaming activation on your IM card number at least seven days before traveling.

Alternatively, go to a store and fill out the acceptance form. In a short time, you'll receive a call informing you that your Roaming has been activated.

For Flexi and Paid Customers:

Roaming is already available in your SIM card when you buy a prepaid card.

Useful information

Before travelling :

a) Check if the network technology is compatible with your phone

Check before traveling if your phone is compatible with the frequency and technology of the network visited. The frequency bands of the networks can be:

  • GSM-2G 900 MHz, 1800 MHz
  • US 2G mobile 800 MHz and 1900 MHz,
  • GSM 3G / UMTS with 2100 MHz,
  • 4G or LTE.

Multi-mode devices support various technologies such as CDMA, TDMA or iDEN depending on the model.

b) Checks whether Vodacom has a roaming agreement in the country you arae going to visit and what services Vodacom offers on its respective networks

c) Verify that you have unblocked roaming and / or roaming data on your device.

Controlling roaming costs in general:

If you are in a country where Vodacom has agreements of the Africa Roaming group or the Vodafone group manually choose the preferred network

For the countries in the Africa Roaming and Vodafone group that have a roaming bundle available, use them to save more

The Welcome message allows you to predict the costs, use apps to calculate your minutes, SMS, and Megabytes.

How to control data usage:

Vodacom offers the following tips to keep your data consumption predictable:

- Avoid uploading and downloading music, photos, and movies

- Turn off your facebook and other apps you do not need

- Activate Data roaming option "OFF" and only switche on when you need it

- Use Wi-Fi instead of 3G / GPRS / EDGE

- Turn on Get New Data between

- Reset the usage tracker to 0 to 10 MB to control its use in real time.
